Prevent UK
The UK Prevent Strategy is a part of the government’s wider Counter-terrorism strategy aimed at stopping people from becoming involved in terrorism or supporting extremist causes. Prevent focuses on safeguarding individuals who are vulnerable to radicalisation by providing early intervention, support, and education. Its primary goal is to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism, while fostering safe and inclusive communities.

Apprenticeships can involve a mix of working environments, which may expose apprentices to a variety of influences. Training providers and employers must actively monitor and intervene early if they notice vulnerabilities. The Prevent strategy provides tools to identify signs of radicalisation and take preventative action.
Why Prevent Matters in Apprenticeships
Spotting the Signs!
Changes in Behavior: Sudden withdrawal from social interactions, extreme views on sensitive topics, or increasing isolation.
Unusual Internet Activity: Spending excessive time on extremist websites or engaging with harmful content on social media.
Verbal Cues: Expressing support for extremist ideologies or using language that promotes hate or violence.
Altered Appearance: Drastic changes in appearance or adopting symbols associated with extremist groups.
Disengagement from Work or Studies: A sudden loss of interest in work or learning, potentially indicating other underlying issues.
Training providers and employers must remain vigilant and understand that these signs don’t necessarily indicate radicalisation but warrant attention and support.
